For many years GTG provided financial assistance to young members who wanted to pursue full time education in the performing arts. The group was able to experience the joy and privilege of seeing them develop over time and support some of them during their education at stage school or university.
In 2001, the Desmond Holt Memorial Trust was created to inherit and advance this work. Desmond was the founder of Godalming Theatre Group. He loved working with youngsters and encouraged them to reach their full potential as performers. It is, therefore, entirely fitting that the Trust should bear his name. His widow Pat continues to support the DHMT.
The Desmond Holt Memorial Trust is an independent organisation, managed by a team of Trustees. Its sole aim is to raise funds for providing bursaries to aspiring actors, singers, dancers or theatre technicians, to help with their education in the performing arts.
Each year the Trust invites Godalming Theatre Group to stage a fund raising concert. Many of the present and past beneficiaries of bursaries, who are training or now working in the profession, perform in the concert alongside GTG members and friends. Everyone gives their time and their talent for free to appear in this "show in a day".
The more funds the Trust can raise, the more people it can help. The Trust welcomes the support of any organisation that can help raise funds, to help the young talent of today become the stars of tomorrow.
